Pull to kick or pull to lead

Just trying to gather opinions of coaches who have experience with this. Out of a base king formation, have any of you pulled the backside guard to pull through or kick on an off tackle run? If so, which seemed to work better?

Typically speaking the Play side Guard has a better chance of turning the corner 1st. The  Weak Side would be my pick to seal the edge or alley (KICK).

I think he's talking about a Strong I formation with 12 personnel. Maybe.

I kick out when I am in Cobra and lead when I am in Rattler.   

I really wish coaches would define their terms more in posts.

I think it was for an I with the FB offset strong.  The FB offset weak would be Queen.

Thank you.  There are a lot of possibilities. 

You could have FB kick and guard lead or guard kick and FB lead.

Or guard kick out with a fake to FB.

Or double lead (can get clogged and clumsy).

Or any combination as long as you can get a hat on a hat.

For youth football, I prefer the guard to kick out and the back to lead.  The speed to the block is faster that way and the hits are harder.

There are 2 kings formations I know of.1 In a multiple set is like an offset I,and 2  is in the DW  where the fb aligns side by side with the rt wb.

The staple of Stanford's offense is the POWER play: FB kicks out and BSG pulls to lead on an LB. 

We run the crap out of power.  And when we've run power to death, we run it some more...

Also, I'm having a difficult time trying to imagine the BSG kicking out and the FB leading...The FB would be there way before the SBG, especially in a king set.

I should also say, the above play is commonly referred to as "Power O." 

Plenty of coaches also run "Power G" which is another kick/lead scheme.  The difference is the Playside Guard kicks out and the FB leads.

I don't know if it works out of "I".  I would have to play with the depth of the backs. 

It can and does work out of the shotgun with the back next to QB though.  I do it all the time.  Though he mostly kicks out the DT on the OT and not the DE.  But he has kicked out DE too. 

Unless we are talking about different things when you say 'kick'.

OK I agree with the Kick by the FB from offset.  However, to Clarks point about the BSG beating the back, in my mind, I don't see the wrap to LB happening either. 

By contrast, I can pull PSG and trap the DL with the BSG.  This works better for me at the youth level and gets a Guard out there quicker.  Personal experience with pulling has been that the back side puller usually ends up blocking line wash before he gets to the edge anyway.
