When I read what the coach said, it almost sounds like he had something personal going on.

Not almost he is inferior to the AA squad b/c he was never good enough or talented enough to make it with the BIG BOYS! His statements shows it very blatantly! I push the envelope with the players BUT you must balance it out b/c they can be very fragile just as they are aggressive!

I forgot to answer the question, yes he went overboard b/c he had a motive for doing it which wasn't positive! Jr was out of line BUT his MANHOOD was challenged during a competitive moment so I would respect and expect that to happen!

I wasnt there, reading only what you wrote and trying to leave a bunch of hunches out of it...

Ill say that the guy was trying to motivate the AA players.
Ill say that the guy crossed the line with his comments that essentially degrade the effort of the A player.
Ill say that the guy probably hurt feelings and stepped on toes of the AA players he criticized, (and their parents)

....Ill say that coaches sometimes do these things as an attempt to motivate, some kids respond, some pack up the tent and go home.

Ill say that based on your sons response, he too was over the line.  I think any time a player tries to tell his coach how to conduct a drill or session he has stepped over his own boundaries.

In the end, sports take a thick skin.

Thanks guys.  I'm going to drop it. I guess the 24-hour rule is a good thing after all.  I talked to Jr about back-sassing coaches. I pointed out that the correct response when the coach called him out would have been "I'll try harder next time, Coach".  I just finished the 6th month of an 8-month season, so it's natural to have an emotional attachment to this team.  I guess I got a little wound up when someone questioned their heart or toughness.

Lar,

Yet another teaching opportunity!  You made the right choice.  Jr is better for it.

I would only hope that the director had a sleepless night replaying that moment over and over again in his head.  We all have said or done things as a coach we totally regretted.  I can tell you I am thankful that for most of them, nobody said anything to me.  I beat myself up enough.  And as for the kid(s), they pretty much forgot about those moments and moved on.  They tend to let these things go much quicker than the parents!   LOL

It's moments like these that help me relate better to the parents.  How's DC's knee?

The Director was a d*ck.

I realize maybe his thinking is that an AA player SHOULD beat the A player even with the "cheating".  Of course, have to look at effort in addition to results there - he's 12.  If he was 17, then maybe you focus on results.  But at 12, the kids busts a nut trying, that's worth something.  You don't set a 12 year old up for failure by rigging everything against him, and then call him out for failing.  That's just stupid.  In fact, the more I think about it, the more pissed off I get, and it's not even my kid, LOL.

That said, I also agree with what you told Jr.  After all, sometimes the refs are playing for the other team so to speak, and no amount of complaining is going to change the scoreboard.  Suck it up and beat the kid anyway.
