Wow, CoachDP did your parents not give you enough love as a child?  Give it a break, you don't have to be a (   ) every day.

I put that information to try to clarify that it isn't a playing time issue.  He had 2/3 of the offensive yards and more tackles that the #2, #3 and #4 tacklers combined.  But those are just statistics so I could be wrong.

Why am I asking strangers?  We'll there only so many people you can ask without it becoming an issue with the current staff.

Why can't I make a decision?  Well if your read above there are pros and cons of each addressed all of which I have taken into consideration.  I thought some professional coaches could give me their thoughts based on the limited information I provided, most did.  Some tried to show how bad and sharp they could be on the internet.

Yes, I have offered to help in any fashion I could?  Yes, I have given the head coach some of my concerns, in a one on one talk away from practice and away from the season.

Putting their safety at risk, it is all subjective.  However, I believe teaching the correct way to block and tackle is safer than not teaching it at all.  So thanks giving me that point.

I appreciate your concern, but I feel there is no need for you to waste your time on me anymore.

Everybody, else thanks.

I want my son to move to a competitive football league and team from his school affliated team.  Currently he is the best player on offense and defense.  However, the school team intentionally schedules teams they know they can beat.  The coaching staff is large, unorganized and doesn't focus on blocking or tackling.  For that matter they spend very little time on either.  Coaching delegation or position responsibility and practice planning are non-existant.  Practice is warmups, running offensive plays and sprints.  The kids play and practice either only offense or only defense for the whole year.  I'm not even covering the "daddy ball issues", lack of blocking rules, lack of attention to detail and 12 defensive plays and 20+ offensive plays.
I have seen this other team practice and play, let's just say they are very good.  My son would not be the best player on this team, maybe top 3 to 8.  However, I think he would be a much better football player from the fundamentals focus and increased competition on the team and in the league.  He only knows a couple of kids on the other team.  He will be 10 next year.  He waffles on where he wants to play.  Some of it could be because he knows where I think he should play.
Am I crazy?  Does it matter?

PS This forum verifies that I'm not totally crazy.

He's 10, he probably wants to be with his friends.  I would say to try and help out coaching the team, volunteer to be the fundamentals coach.

As for positions, my son loves playing FB and TE.  Will he play those positions in HS, probably not he will probably be a LB, C, or DE.

I will tell you what a college coach friend told me when he saw his size and speed, let him be the QB, RB or WR in youth football because in HS the only time he touches the ball will be to snap it or recover the fumble. Let him be Walter Payton while he can. This guy was an ex-OT in college, he said at some point most of us have to stop being Walter Payton and realize we are Bill Fralic and that time comes too soon.   I thought it was a cool conversation.

I would work with my son on fundamentals at home let him be Walter Payton, Revis, Calvin Johnson or Vernon Davis while he can. Let the kid play with his friends, if he has talent it will show.

In 20+ years of coaching...

EVERY time I had a parent me how good their child was, they were wrong.

EVERY time I had one of the best players at that sport/position, the parent was quiet and did not want their kid treated any differently than any other kid on the team, and they promoted team versus "I".

Proud Parent, if you don't want opinions that you don't agree with, then don't ask for them.  Pretty simple, no?
