You know, I'll have to give that some thought.  I liked his practice plans - nothing revolutionary - he divides his practice up into blocks of time that are absolute.  So if you have a 2 hour practice, you can go 12 ten minute segments - or 10 twelves.  He spends time every week in one of those blocks just working the QB and receivers on passing, for instance.  Again - nothing super "different", just an organizational tactic I hadn't really seen or considered.  That one is something I'll likely try out.

He's a big spread guy, in fact I believe Zach/Big Coconut's spread was heavily influenced or based on it.  Good stuff, I liked his screen game and the traps.

Looking at his 50 slant D, there were a lot of similarities with JJ's 33 and Jack's 63 that I felt pretty good about what we're doing.

On a note related to that - thinking about it, there are very few youth specific defenses out there any more that aren't either man or inverted CB's.  Jack's, JJ's, Clark's KB, and this one, with inverted CB's.  Interesting...

I'll have to give some more thought to it.  I picked up 4 of his DVD's - trap and jet sweep, and screen and flood passing, and a flash drive with all of his clinic presentation material.  Will likely take another look at it on the flights to NO this coming week.

How did your presentations go?

Thanks for asking Mike.  They went okay.  Rough start, I was really nervous, but I think I got better as I got into the meat of what I was presenting.  I got several nice comments from guys the next day - they just came up to me and said they liked the presentation.  So I'll take that as a positive.

There are a few things I'd like to have back/redo, but I guess that's to be expected since it was my first time with this material/setting.  I didn't get through the whole DW presentation as I got a lot of questions.  Which is good in a way, since they were obviously engaged/interested enough to ask questions.

On the 33 - I used JJ's presentation, but I'm not JJ.  If I ever do that again, I'll change it up to fit the way I talk/present/view the defense.  Nothing dramatically different, just tweaks in the way the slides are written up.

I don't know if Glazier gets back to speakers on the evaluation ratings, so I don't know whether I'll get that feedback or not.  But I'd do it again.  Well, I will be doing it again this weekend at the DWS, LOL, but I mean in general - if the evals were good enough to where I was able to present again, I would.

I think Grand Rapids is going to be an O-Line coach's dream.

Jim McNally for 5 x 50'.
Paul Alexander (Cincinnati Bengals) for 3 x 50'.

Most of the stuff I do with my O-Line comes from those two guys.  And I learn more every time I see them.

Ted Gill (Michigan State D-Line) for 3 x 50'.

I always learn a ton from the D-Line guys.  And they always have great insight into (a) what causes them the most trouble and (b) how they'd counter what we try to do.

I haven't checked the lineup but even when I wasn't really interested in something at the one in Baltimore I still picked something and got a few great things I can use.

In Baltimore
Rob Ambrose
Brian Fox (Youth Football)
Rich Erdelyi
Ron Vanderlinden

Were all great.  Coach Erdelyi was exceptional.

You cant go wrong with most clinics
Most sessions you can pick up at least 1 thing you can use with your own team, for some speakers- more than 1 thing

This weekend- got picked up by the Glazier car service at the airport along with Jeff Reinebold- from the NFL, CFL, Hawaii and SMU staffs. Was taught Run and shoot by Mouse Davis and June Jones- got stuck in traffic for 90 minutes- so I got a 90 minute private session on WR fundys along with some inside scoop on the R&S

What a great guy- recievers coach for SMU- now with Montreal. He's a guy who likes variety, lives in Hawaii and commutes in football season to Montreal. Really enjoyed that as well as his clinic session on WR play.

I also picked up 2 great coaching tips on place kicking
Got 1 good LB drill from Jacksonville coach
Picked up 3-4 pass catching drills and coaching points from Jeff

Reason R&S is so difficult: according to Jeff- some of the experts _ I wont divulge who he said they were like to purposely make it out to be MUCH more difficult than it is- so lots of people wont run it.

So, true.  I attended my first clinic this year.  I must say it was very enlightening and knowledgeable.

Coach Cisar,
I'm looking forward to hearing you speak in Chicago this march.  I will have to introduce myself after your sessions are over.

I have to bug out right after my last session on Sat to grab a flight- it's going to be VERY tight- last flight out to get home and I don't want to miss it.

Just curious guys. Next weekend, I will be driving to Cleveland and attending my first clinic of any sort and have a simple question. Is it fine to bring a digital voice recorder or is that frowned upon? Any other suggestions?

Glazier doesn't allow recording.

At a lot of clinics, the NFL guys and college guys speak pretty freely.  I'm guessing they wouldn't always be ecstatic about having everything on tape, especially since it can be put on the internet.  Even the clinics that make DVDs of the presentations edit stuff out sometimes.  And those places probably don't want anything that cuts their DVD market.

Bring a flash drive.  A lot of speakers will let you download their presentations afterward.

If there are just chairs, with no tables, don't sit in the front row unless you want to be called up for a lot of demonstrations.  If there are tables, don't sit in the front row next to the aisle, for the same reason.  But sit close to the front.  If the speaker demonstrates something, it's usually good to be able to see the footwork.

When you first go in the room, check for handouts.  They often run out.

Hang around during the break, even if it's just to hear other guys ask questions.  You can pick up a lot of good stuff that way.

Bring cash.  A lot of the college guys sell drill DVDs for $5 or $10.  And they usually go pretty quickly.

Don't be the dude whose cell phone goes off.

If you like a presentation, email the speaker afterward and thank him and all that.  I've made a lot of great contacts that way.  No matter who they are, they are always happy to get positive feedback.  So now, if I have a question about how to handle something that came up in one of my games, or about something new I saw on TV, I have guys I can ask who will know the answers (in addition to everybody on this board, which is, of course, a great resource).

Go to presentations for the other side of the ball.  Not a lot of people do, from what I've seen.  It's always good to see what they're trying to do, and how they want to counter what you do.

Yeah, I was wondering about the need for cash too. Great info. Thanks Michael.
