Just curious guys. Next weekend, I will be driving to Cleveland and attending my first clinic of any sort and have a simple question. Is it fine to bring a digital voice recorder or is that frowned upon? Any other suggestions?
Glazier doesn't allow recording.
At a lot of clinics, the NFL guys and college guys speak pretty freely. I'm guessing they wouldn't always be ecstatic about having everything on tape, especially since it can be put on the internet. Even the clinics that make DVDs of the presentations edit stuff out sometimes. And those places probably don't want anything that cuts their DVD market.
Bring a flash drive. A lot of speakers will let you download their presentations afterward.
If there are just chairs, with no tables, don't sit in the front row unless you want to be called up for a lot of demonstrations. If there are tables, don't sit in the front row next to the aisle, for the same reason. But sit close to the front. If the speaker demonstrates something, it's usually good to be able to see the footwork.
When you first go in the room, check for handouts. They often run out.
Hang around during the break, even if it's just to hear other guys ask questions. You can pick up a lot of good stuff that way.
Bring cash. A lot of the college guys sell drill DVDs for $5 or $10. And they usually go pretty quickly.
Don't be the dude whose cell phone goes off.
If you like a presentation, email the speaker afterward and thank him and all that. I've made a lot of great contacts that way. No matter who they are, they are always happy to get positive feedback. So now, if I have a question about how to handle something that came up in one of my games, or about something new I saw on TV, I have guys I can ask who will know the answers (in addition to everybody on this board, which is, of course, a great resource).
Go to presentations for the other side of the ball. Not a lot of people do, from what I've seen. It's always good to see what they're trying to do, and how they want to counter what you do.
