fun article in the NYT about Coughlin as a HC at RIT

Good old handwritten documents on practice notes and drills he used in the 1970's... even some scouting notes on one of their opponents (hobart) 7-2 defense...

Thanks for posting this Coach. It really confirms the image I have of coach Coughlin. It is refreshing to read how he deals with with players that were not willing to put in the work.

It may be because I am a Giants fan, but I love coach Coughlin.

Thanks again.

Would love to meet Coach Coughlin, he has an IMPECCABLE reputation, around the NFL.. It's almost as if they cant say enough good about him, would love to pick that guys brain.. Or any of the former assistants of Bill Parcells

Thanks for sharing that.  As an Eagles fan, I have never liked anything Giants and especially anything Cowboys.  All my Uncles would see to it that I learned to "hate" the enemy and have been to games in the old Vet wear guys took their life into their hands wearing a Phil Simms jersey or I remember a guy getting thrown down several levels because he started something with a bunch of nut ball and drunk Eagles fans (never been proud of that rep, but the guy was wearing a Roger Staubach jersey).

Anyway, sometimes I have to step back from my childhood training and see through my fanatic lenses to see when there is something truly respectable to see.  From those lenses I have always thought Coughlin a cry baby and a whiner.  I gotta say and admit that I was wrong.  I would love to see the Giants beat up on the Pats this weekend and hope Coach Coughlin gets the win!

As a green bleeder, I will say that after reading that article I have much respect for Coach C....  I still don't have to like him though Ha Ha   :D

Always respected the Giants, was actually a Giants fan as a kid, my idol was (still is) Parcells.

Remember meeting, and getting OJ Anderson's, autograph at the Philly Airport as a kid, Caught ALOT of shit over that growing up in Philly.

Just have to represent my home town though,... But they don't make it easy... especially in the Kotite, Rhoades years

You know how it goes Old School Coach, high ego players.  As it turns out once they all start to realize that Coughlin's way works they start playing well.  This seems to be a habit with the G-Men.  Whine about all the discipline and lack of "connection" then play ball his way.  No doubt in anyones mind that Tom Coughlin can flat out coach.

I bet he has a little more toleration than Parcell's did.  You could ROT on the bench if you failed to see things the "Tuna's Way".  I dont think TC has the same leverage with the Giants as BP did.   ;)
Confidence goes way beyond the Gridiron!  Show me a man who has never failed and I'll show you a man who has never tried anything!

My dad (Biggest Eagles fan that ever lived) loved Parcells, probably why I liked him so much.  When Parcells won their 1st Superbowl I was jumping around rubbing it in his face, ... So he said he was going to buy me a BUCH of Giants stuff, and said I had to wear it to school.. SO I shut up

You have to mention Kotite ...... as one of the worst coaches of all time.. anyone who could take the Defense, and screw it up the way he did, has to rank in the top 5

Kotite's '94 Eagles lost their last 7 games.  He then went 3-13 and 1-15 with the Jets.  That's a nice little run of 4-35.  The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went 6-33 in their first 39 games, and that's with an 0-26 start.

It was great that Braman fired Buddy Ryan because he couldn't win in the playoffs, and then replaced him with the offensive coordinator who got them six points in their last playoff loss.

Three best signs I've ever seen at  sporting events:

3. Cellular Field during a White Sox playoff game: What's the attendance at Wrigley today?

2. The Vet, at a game during the Kotite years: Is this the next level?

1. Fenway Park, when Roger Clemens, pitching for the Yankees, got knocked out in the third inning of a playoff game: Roger, thanks for the memories.  Especially this one.

It is so humbling to read how a successfull person can be willing, better yet,  actively trying to learn more and perfect his craft.

I will use this article in much more than just football.
