Just met with the HS coach. We have some really cool stuff comin out of the Pistol down the road. He's all about Spread with some neat packages but he loves the Pistol stuff.

Whats not to love about a deadly misdirection offense that installs in 40 mins, and makes you even more multidimensional! If you dont want to coach something like that...then what else could you want???

You got that right Coach! We are even shifting into it out of a no huddle offense. I'm basically the eye in the sky signaling down the spread and the Pistol in a no huddle offense. That will be interesting in itself. Three different shifts, eight formations and 36 plays all in a no huddle offense. I'll probably brain fart on that.

Not much different, just some terminology and he zone blocks everything. Very similar actually. But he runs a whole bunch of different sets, which you can do with 16-18 yr old kids.

The Youths teams are not doing zone. Yes, My scheme is much better for youth with base blocking

Yes Rick stick with the splits that Coach Cox mentioned in his guide. It's much easier overall.

So base and Iso we need 1 foot splits, everything else in the Pistol package 3-6,up to a foot.Thats how I read it.page 38.

It all depends on what you are running. If you are running DW plays, I wouldn't split more than 3-4 inches. Everything else is dependent on what your kids can handle. If they can base block and handle space well, then stretch your splits to what they can handle without getting beat by the blitzes I'm sure you will see. 1 foot splits is the starting point in Base and Iso blocking. It is safe and effective. However, you might have some OL that can handle a little wider split. You will find out quick once you decide if you you are running any Base schemes.

Also: You have to decide what system in the 'I' Pistol you want to run. There are three systems or more out there and they are all different. Mine is a DW Pistol primarily based in DW concepts and simple perimeter schemes for a mini-spread attack. Then there is the Pistol Option with wide splits a different blocking scheme and some triple option read. Also you will find Pistol with zone concepts and wide splits. But Zone is really tough to teach at the Youth level [jmo]. And then there is the SW version of 'I' Pistol as well. Find a version that offers you as a coach the best scheme according to what you want to run and run it. Mixing and matching is not the thing to do. I think it will lead to instant failure.

Yes ,I know ,but I also know what our HS uses ,and just want to be prepared with all ,in case they dictate.
