5-3 Defense CB BLitizing
« on: September 02, 2013, 08:10:31 PM »
We have wide DE as per Killer B. Some offenses dont use a wr, but my d does have 2 corners. If the corner does not have anybody over them they crash wide helping the DE contain. The problem we have been having id the CB is faster than the DE and they are running in to each other, rather the De is running into the CB.

I want the CB to be doing something. I hate when players just sit when the ball goes the other way. So do I treat the CB like a linebacker and tell them to scrape to the ball or just send them on the blitz?
nothing replaces effort. nothing replaces the mind. One with out the other is a waste.

We've been experimenting with an "I'm here" call. If there is no reciever outside the TE, He will give the DE an I'm here call. He will blitz to the near, deep back and the DE will now crash to the QB's heels. It hasn't been perfect. Communication being the main thing.

I like to play cover 2 and have the safety in an invert/robber coverage as an extra lb

Playing zone or man? Make sure you have the te and running back taken care of in pass coverage. CBs #1 responsibility is coverage then run support. You start sending that cb against a well coached team they will quick pass you to death. Have him play run contain like he is supposed to and blitz when you want to take an educated(scouting/tendencies) chance of getting a big play. Start drawing it up against something pretty common like 22 personnel and the cb side you are blitzing has a huge area of that the olb has to cover.

Some info on what we call auto blitzing. It can be off motion, alignment or as a called stunt.

I love when we find that teams auto blitz.

In Killer Bee you don't want that corner flowing like a LBer.  He's completely unnecessary to the defense.  So you can send him on the auto blitz but just have him run UNDER the DE versus AROUND and you shouldn't have that collision.

Just recognize you are being PREDICTABLE.  You might want to have a means to call that auto blitz off (Which is why that blitz doesn't exist in the Killer Bee.).
