Ive done several survey monkey surveys from my site and newsletters- over 500 respondents

The surveys like always had a due by date- not ongoing

We all know in real life youth football teams have a MUCH better chance of getting the ball receiving than kicking

Ah....I thought maybe Max Preps had a Mini Preps.

And I agree. Odds are less for recovering OSK's.

But chances of a KR for a TD go way down on an onside kick, assuming you are not kicking to Ean Lee.

True...and that kid is amazing. Never plays Offense but still scores TD's.

That is a misconception, receiving gives you an opportunity to have an extra possession in the first half, deferring gives you the chance to have an extra possession in the second half.

Deferring gives you the possibility to have back to back drives, but it is not an extra possession when that happens. If you defer and have the last possession of the first half, you had the same amount of drives as your opponent.
Unless I also get the last possession of the 2nd half. In that case I do get an extra possession. Although I suppose that isn't any more likely than my opponent getting an extra possession in the 1st half then us getting the same number of possessions in the 2nd half after I defer.
Practice makes permanent. Perfect practice makes perfect.

Also remember that the chances are slim of scoring on the last possession.  That happens only when you score at the gun.  What having the last possession really means is keeping the ball away from the other team for that time.

It's a good point but when I think of the last possession I am not really thinking of the ones where you get the ball with 5 seconds to go. I know technically I am wrong but I am counting the ones where you have a realistic amount of time left, like say 45 seconds or more. It's kinda the same as the qb throwing a pick on a hail marry on the last play of the half. Is it really a turnover. Yup, but not really in the way the game plays out.

If I could trade possessions w the other team, that possession is one of the set I'd rather not have.  If the amount of time is only "realistic" -- like you could score, but chances aren't that great -- I'd rather the other team have that possession, & our team have the other set of possessions.

Of course but you generally can't trade possessions unless you just want to turn the ball over. I was just commenting on the rarity of scoring on the last possession of the half or game. I'm not really going to consider getting the ball back with 4 seconds as a possession.

Not sure how it works with you guys, but when the clock is kept officially on the field, I have noticed that a half will end on the change of possession or score an inordinate amount of time.  It couldn't be that the zebras just say that those last 15-20 seconds of a half really aren't that important and just end it.  Right?

Fortunately we almost always have scoreboards with the time on it.

Fortunately we almost always have scoreboards with the time on it.

For us, they only allow us to have the time on the scoreboard if we pay to have a referee working the clock.  That guy sitting there gets the same amount of money as the guys on the field.  For playoffs, we have to do that, but for regular season games, it is not really worth the added cost.

2 games in to the season and I have given up a TD on the last drive of the half both times.  And the other team has been receiving the opening kick off of the 2nd half.

We are a big play defense, in that we love giving up big plays :)

We scored in the last 3 minutes of the half, got the onside kick and scored again with them having 2 plays left.  Then we got the opening kickoff of the 2nd half (after deferring) and we scored again.  Game over.
