NUMBERING OF DEFENSIVE TECHNIQUES:

TERMINOLOGY:  There is a lot of discussion on "DEFENSIVE NUMBER TECHNIQUES".  Of course, there is more than one way to do this, BUT, the ATTACHED chart (which goes back to "Bum" Phillips & "Bear" Bryant) is almost UNIVERSAL in football today:

Do you have one for LB technique? Anytime I think I understand it, I'm wrong. For example, what does it mean when a LB plays a 54, a 30, a 40, etc?

Yes - you simply add a "0" to any of the techniques on THAT CHART depending on WHERE you put the LB.

LBers are in a "40" in a WT-6 & a "30" in Overshifted 6, ETC.

i thought in the original that 8 was missing. and it was 7-6-9:
7 - inside shade of the TE
6 - Head up on the TE
9 - Outside shade of the TE
