"58" and "25"
« on: February 28, 2014, 10:49:54 AM »
For these plays in the R & S, what is the QB's footwork?

  • For 58, does the QB fake the handoff to the RB, pitch it to the TE, and then lead the runner around or is it something else?

For 25, is it an "outside" handoff?

Thanks!

On "58" I used a handoff to the TE.  I did not have the QB lead.

I did not find any particular handoff necessary on "25" but then most teams would not let me handoff, playing as many defenders on the LOS as they normally did versus running teams.  The "2" back usually got the ball when the QB put him in motion.  This completely screwed up every "D" I faced.  You could see the LB's eyes pop open not knowing what to do.  If the near LB follows, the TE comes open.

If you're running R&S as a supplement to your regular offense, try and keep the QB doing what he's done before.  If R&S is your primary offense,  someone else might want to chime in that has actually handed off.

I think I'm a little skewed on this because I was thinking that the QB is in the Pistol instead of under Center. I may have an opportunity to coach up a Spring League and this would be pretty much perfect for the team I inherit (18 10 - 12 year olds).

For 25, is it a pass play for the RB to get the ball? The way I'm reading the manual (2005 R & S) it calls 25 the "Counter Trey" and I thought that would be a handoff.

It's a hand off.
