18 Stretch / 28 Jet
« on: August 25, 2014, 04:29:13 PM »
Cox coaches - do you find that the backside Guard is able to get where he needs quickly enough on the 18 Stretch & 28 Jet plays?

I'd imagine he would on 18 Stretch (since there's a Blast fake to the 2 back) but we have some speed at tailback and I'm concerned with him getting there on 28 Jet. I believe Coach Cox pulls the PST on 28 Jet, similar to "Truck Toss" in the ECO, but am curious about what your findings are.

Thank you!

I pull the playside guard on Jets, and stretches. My guards are athletes but they rarely make it there in time to make a significant block.

I pulled both Gs when running Jet and Fly both.

We have had a great deal of success pulling the PSG on jet sweep, and uncovered linemen on stretch.

Indeed. We prefer our guards to be athletic. Frequently, they are backup FB's, so we can get the PSG out in front on jet. It helps if the jet back bends his path back after the handoff. He ends up on the pulling guard's outside hip and slightly behind him with enough depth to read and cut off his block.

You can also use a reach blocking scheme to reach-lol your goal.We did it all year with great success, and Cox uses it in the DW perimeter plays to and extent.

We pulled BSG all year long...on Stretch and Jet. BSG was a quick full back type kid...and we had tight tight line splits, its something we rep alot and the timing needed to be there. You have to make sure that the TB is taking that Big Step to the sideline and delaying just that lil fraction of a second...giving the guard time to clear playside... you also need to adjust the depth of the QB and TB to get the timing right also, and you have to stay on your backs and QB to always line up EXACTLY in the same spots that will also throw things off.
