Hey Joe need some advice
« on: July 17, 2015, 11:11:53 AM »
Joe,

I am stuck coaching 8 man ineligible flag these days. Need some help. Have a very young group of college level players and most have never played football. So I went from the get-go with Cover 3.

Since I have 5 guys to cover 4 potential wide outs  (BTW we go 1/4, 1/4, 1/2 vs trips)  I have had no problem with the deep ball other than a mismatch (short corner vs very tall wide out) so I am happy with our deep ball pass defense. My OLB's are playing inside shade to take away the quick slant by #2's  and will take anything vertical or out by #2. If #2 goes inside then we look for anything coming back and robb it.

Here is the problem, last night, in one of our friendly games the other team had #2 go out  and #1 was coming in on a slant about 10 yards. Almost Slant/Curl but #1 was not sitting but if he did would have same effect. I know this is a Cover 3 buster but any advice on how to not get gashed on this? I don't want to over protect this and get gashed on a wheel by #2.

Regards,

The issue is playing C3 with only 8 on the field. There are 5 under zones you have 2 men the numbers don't add up. If you had 1 ILB problem solved. You may have to play like a deep C7 where the FS robs the  middle.
