A Question about stacked MIKE linebackers in this system
« on: July 29, 2015, 12:17:50 PM »
After having read the manual I am curious on how the linemen count stacked mike linebackers on run plays to the strong side (or any run plays for that matter).   Lets say the play side is to the right and the defense is lined up in this....

           M
E   T    N     T      E
T   G    C     G    T   TE

The center blocks man over him (N) Does the Guard count MIKE as first DL/LB if he is lined up withing 3-4 yards of the LOS?  Im guessing he would be ignored in the count and guard would count the DT as DL LB #1  With the OT blocking the DE and the WB kicking out the first man that shows off the guards butt.  I suppose you could also have the Tackle block the MIKE as well and have the WB kick out the DE.  The OT tackle is assigned to block the #2 DL/LB on a run play.

The linemen all have to be on the same page.  If Mike is close enough to touch N, then Mike is a DL.  OG has him and OT has man over OG.  Both OG and OT can see this for themselves.  If M can touch N, QB should be throwing to a TE on slant.

If M is outside beyond being able to touch N, then M is an LB and OG has DG and OT has DE.

I use "Mike close enough to touch N" because:

1) Mike is able to play taps with N
2) The only reason to play Mike here is to blitz

A Mike that is not able to touch N will normally play 3-5 yards back and should not pose a blitz problem.
