NCAA Rules - kickoff
« on: October 11, 2016, 12:20:42 PM »
I haven't asked this one before...I hope.

Kick return - when is it legal to block the kicking team?  Can we run forward from the 50 and block them?  I've never actually had anyone do that so it never occurred to me to ask, LOL.

Receiving team can block whenever they want (kicker might be protected, can't recall)...after the kick of course.

Kicking team has to wait until the ball goes 10 yards or the other team comes across the restraining line.
None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.

Kicker is protected until he has gone 5 yards beyond his kicking spot or the ball has been touched.

How far back from the ball do the non kickers need to align these days?  Seems like it changed last year...?

They have to have 1 part of their body no more than 5 yards back from the spot of the ball.  So, we have our kids with one foot on the 35 and the rest of their body behind it.

That is different than NFHS rules which requires them to be completely in front of the 35.  Found that one out the hard way in Regional Finals last year.  Ref gave us a 5 yard penalty.
