Watching old video
« on: March 15, 2017, 06:28:48 PM »
Of when we ran this offense with a team that went 8-0 and won the championship. Prepping to run this O again the next two seasons.

What I realized. We sucked at running the ball vs. heavy blitzing teams ! Was looking at our Hudl stats for that championship game and we had a ton of 0,1 or negative loss runs. We ended up going to beast and passing to win.

We could not defend the A gap blitz with a 303 or 404 front and we could not defend the B gap blitz vs a 4 man front.

Teams were walking up their LB's after we got down and just blitzing full steam ahead at us. We were lucky to get passes off as well. I did not utilize bubble screens like I should have.

So my questions are:

- How do you get a youth center to step and snap at the same time ? Clark has a video on it. I have watched it. I have tried to teach it. Just never seems to work for me.

- How do you train you lineman to pick these blitzes up ? Seems like our O-line was laser focused on the D-lineman and never came off, or just couldn't get to the blitzing LB's.

Would you go to a GAP scheme instead of zone ? I didn't have an adjustment to change the blocking up front then. It was based on what play we were running. Zone, Power, counter etc. The scheme went with the play.

I can post video, I think, if needed.

5 front family and counting. If you understand, and I mean really understand counting and odd and even, you can train them to recognize who to block!

I will assume you are using Slide protection. If not then it becomes a different conversation. So, the Guard stepping away from the Center has to help with his away side hand punching. Now, if they have a man head up the Center & walk up 2 A gap blitzers we would make a call to adjust the protection. In this case the Center will simply cut the Nose.

Did you run Jet?

We love when we get those inside heavy blitzing teams. We will run OZ or Jet, along with the fast screens depending on the leverage.

When we saw 3 0 3 & they blitzed the A gaps that means they have 5 men inside our 5, we would get very excited. We would usually have our Center either Cut or rip & run. Bubble depending on the leverage or Smoke were usually impossible to defend. We even had a Game were the other team had a huge NG who we simply never blocked. He wasn't worth wasting a block on. He never made a tackle the entire game.

Give me a call if you want me to look at the film.

Thanks Joe. Yes I would like you to look at it. Thank you for the offer. I don't believe we ran jet that year.

We also had a RB who just put his head down and tried to barrel everyone over. He missed a lot of holes. I will be in touch soon.

Trying to get there. I obviously didn't understand it well enough the year we ran it.

draw up base  52 and 43 defense and move zero in both defenses. count them starting with man over center.
Then move zero in both defenses. Draw a line through the middle of the center and count on each side. I stole this from pearls of wisdom. When you understand the importance of those families and the counting, all the bull spit goes away.

Not a problem. One of the keys to running our offense is the backs ability to find the hole. Remember we teach the back to have landmarks & read a certain player in order to make an educated cut. This takes time & coaching.

Adding Jet is a great way to beat those inside blitzes.

Joe -

How would I get the video to you ? It is on Hudl. It is a youth package so I don't know if I can exchange film. Going to try and call tomorrow or Thursday. Work keeps getting in the way.
