Lol. I actually think most coaches under complicate things, which is why one coaches Wing T can look light years better than another coach.

I’ve always nerded out on all the details. No stone left unturned. My thought has always been that if both teams have equal talent, & both teams are well coached, only 2 things will sperate the teams. 1: Luck. 2: Attention to details. Whether it’s the snap count, the way we call plays, when we warm up beforr a game etc etc. I take it all very serious & try to get the most out of everything we do.

If I come up w/ a system that’s 10% more flexible than yours & takes 5% less time to install, i’ve gained a MASSIVE advantage that could be the difference any given SAT.

OK just going to repeat what others have indicated.

It really doesnt matter WHAT OR HOW you name it.  ex: "Spider 2, Y-Banana" As long as you can Coach it, and the Kids understand it, its Golden!

I put that playcall in once...a TE drag I think.

I just wanted to hear my QB call it.  :P

This conversation is rather funny to me. I was hired the first week in January as the OC at a new school. The first days I was racking my brians to come with a new system to call the plays. I over complicated everything, then realized it & went back to the way I called my plays before LMHS.

Ha ha. Sometimes the answer is to just go w/ what works. That said, a big part of the fun of coaching & this forum is to brainstorm all the little stuff. At this point most of us are just fine tuning & trying to perfect something we already know works really well.

Eh. I don’t think the words you use matter. But I think the way you use them matters. I’m fully convinced that the way you call plays drastically impacts the instillation process. I don’t think it’s to be taken lightly.

You’re teaching kids a new language. Learning a language is hard. When a kid asks you what something means, in order to explain it you have to use words in a specific order for them to understand it. Sometimes you need a lot of words in a spefic order to explain something simple. I think the same is true of play calling.

I think most coaches put very little thought into it, & that’s a big part of why it takes them so long to get their offense in. If you’re teaching a new language to someone & there wasn’t a lot of thought put into how you’re gonna do it, I think you’re likely to be way behind a team like ours.

I got this idea from another coach. Holes on both side labeled 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8; 1Agap,2guard,3Bgap,4Tackle,5Cgap,6TE,7Dgap,8wide. Right is even and left is even. Snap count first number of play call. A name at the end is the blocking and backfield action. So trap could be Toronto, Texas, or Teal. So if I call 251 Texas, it be; snap on 2 left 1 hole trap.
The greatest accomplishment is not in never failing, but in rising again after you fail.

Motions would be called first. Rocket 135 Boston, rocket motion on 1 left side through the 5 hole blast

Great concept at every age, even mitey mite.

"Who's the first read?"
"Fullback."
"Why the fullback?"
"Because he's always open."
"You can't go broke takin' a profit!"

Cracks me up.
