Heres how we do it.
- every one must end up on someone eventually

Half line 4 v 4

-----------------40
-----0------3---------9
-----c----g----t---y

We do 3 modes

A. Offense 3/4 defense is frozen
- get to your guy...count correctley... I should see a check by pst on 3 or 9 tech
b. Offense  full speed defense 2 steps
- defensive line takes 2 steps forward linebacker can take 2 step either direction
- nothing should change but speed between a. And b.
c.full speed both sides
- turns into half line slow oklahoma
- that tackle better finish on the 40 tech dont care where

I had avoided counting until now, but I introduced it and this check and climb tonight. Kids who were naturally going to the 2nd level tended to stay on their double longer, but overall, the DLM were blocked and nice holes were forming. We have focused only on IZ thus far as there have been other issues slowing us down (team selections and shuffling), but I am happy going into this weekend's scrimmage. Inside run, three counters off that (QB, HBack and Z), two PA passing combos (Hitch/Corner and Post/Wheel), and two screens (X and Z Bubble), and two formations installed. Threw the fake Z around/inside run tonight. Burned the scout D big time.

Zach are you having your kids stay on doubles in inside zone and check on outside zone?

Mike

Its call dependant...these calls are sideline calls

Base zone left/ right
-count
- check closest first level threat if uncovered and climb if youre guy is second level

Power
if uncovered double nearest threat at the  1st level dont come off

Plus
center adds 1 to count everyone stretches and man blocks

Who do you consider the nearest threat in an odd 4-0-4 front ? The 4 or the 0 ?

That is how we do it but just checking. We ran power 6-7 times today. I'll comment more when I see the film. But no negative yard and that was with 3 different backs.

Pre season game

My guys are a div 2 pop warner team in eastern region and we played a div 1 power house. We lost 12-0 very respectable...tough game 0-0 at half.

Anyway what did i learn...

When you play a fast more talented team
- dont check go man on man
- double 3 techs im tight zone

We were 1000% better then last week with physicality as we went "15 rounds" with these guys

We are getting beat backside. Kids are not getting their head on the playside of the defender. Its got to be a footwork/aiming point issue.

Need to rep this to death.

Are they losing their guys?

If they are, head position might not help a ton.

Yes.

They are recessed but its something I have to harp on every practice. They want to suck up closer to the center. No matter how much we tell them they just start inching forward.

My LT is a big boy. He doesn't move well so I think it is footwork with him.

The others I think it is their aiming point and/or footwork. Their heads are consistently center or backside armpit of the defender...only way that can happen is if they are not taking their steps I think ? Need to watch the film closer. Work is getting in the way.
