Slide Protection and Zone Blocking
« on: September 09, 2014, 12:35:12 AM »
For all you that think its easy!  Try it!  If they cant do slide they dont get Zone!

I argued with my entire O Line this evening about chasing the defender!  I dont give a SH*T which way the defender does!  I only care about the Gap to my Left or Right depending on which way we throw!  Stop Chasing the Front!  They will run into a block regardless!

How do you get in an argument with your O-Line?

Counting and hunting is more zone then slide...

I start teaching slide with a 404 stack look just like jj's 33. That gives them a good visual of what you're talking about from the first day. It also gets the scout D coming hard since they get to blitz. If you can slide that front, you'll be just fine.

The concept is similar to Zone Gap Step without the climb.

At issue is the insistance they have to chase defenders instead of simply taking their gap.  Extremely aggrivating to get head nods and walk through, then go live and it blows up like a baby fart when you powder their behind.
