Building a blocking sled, need opinions
« on: June 16, 2017, 07:53:52 AM »
Ok, Blocking sleds are VERY expensive, at least to me. I found a guy who was selling the pads that mount on them for $25 each, they are used but the school he works for was throwing them away. I had $50 so I bought 2, both are the armpit style. I had some 3 inch channel steel laying around so I am in the process of making a 1 man sled. Was going to make a 2 man, but transporting it daily would be a hassle. ANYWAY. Here is what I am building. The tabs under the pivot arm with the red "T" are 1/2 bolts so that I can adjust the drop and elevation on the pivot. The L on the front of the Up tube is to hang additional weight if needed.
Opinions? Suggestions?

I made two of these. They fold down for easy transport.

Made from punching bag and alumium i tig welded it. Base is filled with sand and if need more weight it has a standing platform, it works well used for 3 seasons.

Very nice and shiny. Mine is out of 3" x  1/8 channel. Got the platform done last night.
