Hamstring Injury

I am looking for advice on how to treat a hamstring injury. My son is a junior in high school who is suffering from a tight/sore hamstring. He can walk and jog but if he tries to sprint he says it feels tight, like it may pull. He pulled the hamstring on his other leg freshman year, so he has an idea on how that feels. Fortunately it is not to that level this time.

So, my questions are:

(1)  what treatments/exercises can he do now to help the muscle recover so he can return to action as soon as possible? (After the game tomorrow he has a bye week)

(2) what can he do to reduce the risk of this happening again?  Since the injury freshman year he has been stretching, but what are the best stretches?  Can anyone suggest videos online we can watch and use?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My son missed freshman year because of the other hamstring injury, and missed last season with a back injury. He was so happy to be back on the field the first three games this season.  So, we are both extremely frustrated with this set back.

Increase salt, electrolytes help

Hot/cold treatment - ice bath for 2 min, into 1 min warm

Movement is lubricant,  keep moving

See a doctor if its beyond a week

Thanks for the advice. Just a couple of follow up questions:
(1) any suggestions on good foods to increase salt?
(2) we have a bathtub upstairs and one downstairs. Logistically, it will take him a minute or two to move between the two. Is that okay?  Or would the delay decrease the effectiveness.

Get iodized salt and add on food or get some pedialyte popsicles. Im actually a fan on salting green apples or just eating pickles honostly.

Regards to the contrast bath therapy, time in between is ok.  See attachment

Thank you very much!  He eats a couple of apples each day. I’ll have him try them with some salt.
