Orlando-Bound
« on: November 30, 2019, 12:29:53 PM »
Won the Mid-South Regional Championship today, 19-6.  That sends us to Disney in a week, for a week in the National Championship round.  Opponent had a poor scheme, but some really good players.  They sent the house on several blitzes, and thus were penalized for several off-sides.  Their lack of discipline underlined their lack of scheme.  They were physical and made us work, but it shouldn’t have been this close.  We got stopped in their red zone twice (once at their 5-yard line and another getting stopped on a 4th and 1).  So 3 more practices this week and then driving down next Friday.

What is your role with the team? I know you were busy so you couldn't dedicate a lot of time earlier in the season.

Trying to re-polish their UCDW, installed their Gun DW and coach their offensive linemen.

Tonight we had an organization-wide viewing party to watch ESPN's Pop Warner Super Bowl Bracket Show.  More than 100 players and parents showed up at the community center for food & drinks in anticipation to see what bracket we're in and who we're matched up against.  We play Saturday at 1:30pm against the Kekaha Titans from Hawaii.  (Anybody know anything about them?).  The game is not on the ESPN Watch game list for Day 1.

We leave here by bus on Thursday night at midnight and should be arriving in Orlando at approximately 11am on Friday.  We'll get checked in, grab something to eat and get over to practice.  I'm driving down separately, but leaving here about the same time.  I'll get checked into my hotel and meet the team at Wide World of Sports.  We'll practice Tuesday and Wednesday here.

Back to the ole stomping grounds huh?

With the high school season over, I can now focus on this.  Keeping my options open for next year, since I have no idea what I want to do.  Maybe I'm coaching 7-year-olds, maybe high school.  Dunno.  Or, perhaps this is the end of the line.  If so, ending with a conference title with our high school JV team and in Orlando with our youth team isn't a bad way to go.

If the team you are playing are like the other Hawaii teams, I hope you guys can defend the pass!

Our defense is fairly stout, and I'm pleased with what I've seen.  My concern is my side of the ball.
