Free Blocking Zone Presentation
« on: June 07, 2010, 04:35:27 PM »
Hey guys.  I was recently looking for stuff on the free blocking zone and stumbled on this presentation.  I figured I'd share it.  I found it at http://www.assignphillong.info/32009.html, which I believe is a site in Michigan that assigns refs to youth and HS sports.  The author is Joel Barnes, who I think is a ref.

Last year, we played a team who cut blocked everywhere.  They cut our LBs and secondary using backs 20 yards downfield.  They even cut during KO/KR.  I got flagged for bringing it (admittedly loudly) to the ref.  I watched them in the championship game and they were flagged on the first play from scrimmage.  Their coach pleaded with the ref that "it was in the backfield".  Clearly, that coach was ignorant of the rule.  Hopefully, this ppt can help educate a coach or two that wasn't already familiar with the rules.
