Interesting Commission
« on: May 03, 2018, 01:30:50 AM »
Got a call from a Couple needing an Out Building designed for their Home Property.

Guest Quarters, a Shop, an Office and some temprature controlled storage space. No problem.

Well the storage space is for 3600 15x12x10 file boxes that all must be accessible. They are filled with $1.5M worth of ....collectible comic books.

But that is not the weird part. The Shop is for his Burning Man Lobster Car. Seriously....its a Car... that looks like a Lobster.

Im wondering if they will pay me by check or with peyote buttons.  :P

At this point in my life...I'd take both.  8)

Gotta love eccentric millionaires.

Last I checked there were about 500 billionaires in the US. I have worked with 3 of them. You'd think they would be the eccentrics. Nope. Normal as normal can be. Even though they can build whatever they want....they build for need like everyone else. Kinda surprised me.

But they do own some stuff that is for sure. One Client kept talking to his wife about meeting her at the ship while we were designing their personal residence. Typically the Wife is the lead when it comes to home design...not the case with this Project.

On the phone....Hi honey, yah Im flying out tonight. I will meet you at the ship in Fiji on Thursday.

At first I figured they owned a yacht. Nope. Him and his buddies bought a massive cruise ship from Norwegian and turned it into a private floating time share cruise ship. It traveled the World 50 weeks per year. His suite was 3200 sf. The ship was fully appointed with all services too included cars and helicopters for port...and even a Dentist while at sea.  :P

BTW he drove a Dodge Dakota as his daily driver. One thing I have learned is the super rich that are not famous want / need to blend in or they become targets. He loved football....came to all of our Semi Pro games.  Was a huge 49'r fan and started and owned the AFL San Jose Sabercats for a spell.

Him and one of his buddies started the Women's Pro Volleyball Tours that eventually became an Olympic sport. They owned a cable company and were looking for more summer programming. So they decided to organize all the pretty girls that played beach volleyball for fun thinking people would want to watch pretty girls play beach volleyball....and the rest is history.
