He does what he can in the truck for his regular classes, its the computer work for the Honors class that he is having an issue with. It's damn near like a online college class where he has to type out and upload his papers.

That's probably what makes it an Honors class.

Hey DP,

I realize that you only know what I have written on here and you don't know the entire story but...

I only know what you have written, but since you feel compelled to give us all an inside look, it certainly appears that your son has been given the short end of the stick.  And since your social life (i.e., coaching) appears to get somewhat in the way of his academic and athletic life, it sounds like as a single parent perhaps you should step back from coaching so that he isn't having to sacrifice his time so that you can coach.

So what changed? Did a light bulb just come on one day? I ask because my older sister was somewhat stubborn and she turned alright. My little sister is a flat out bad person.

Actually Rob, I'll tell you what changed: I started coaching.  Nothing like having to live up to certain standards when you're holding them accountable for theirs.  I began doing what I was asking them to do; make better decisions, put team ahead of self, give your best and don't make excuses.  Otherwise, I'd probably just be some dude riding his Harley around the country.  No real life in that...

Many would be perfectly content with riding a Harley around all day. Few feel the need to make a difference.

Funny,  I thought I would be some dude riding my Harley this season.  Some think I should have started doing that a while back.
Spent a few dollars prepping for that and I have about 500 miles on it this year.  Odds are long that we will make the playoffs this year.  However, We are still looking to end the season on an uptick~!!

Scott, I still get to ride it, though.  The high school is about 30 minutes away.  I'll put 2 footballs and kicking tees in my backpack and ride to practice.  I took the Harley yesterday (got caught in the rain on the way back and had to pull over).  The day before, I took the Suzuki.  Good times.

Well perhaps I'm different that way.  In some ways, I feel like I'm still the stubborn, no-learning my lesson, taking the hard way when the easier smarter path exists, guy.  But I've written here before about the responsibility, which is a calling, to do what it is that we're trying to do at EWHS and through coaching.  The Lord leads me to it and I try my best to honor Him through it.  And I know I don't sound humble, because I'm too busy telling others here how they should do things. lol  But believe me, I'm humble.  And everything could be taken away in a second.

I think this season has been a perfect example.  I had two attractive offers in the off-season, and then this one.  After looking into it, I knew this was the hardest and least attractive of the three (in addition to being the furthest away).  It's been a very frustrating gig, as I knew it would be.  There is no football culture developed (not yet, anyway).  I'm ridiculously understaffed.  The admin (while they do leave me alone, which is a blessing) is hardly supportive.  I can't get ONE SINGLE TEACHER to email/text/call me about student/player issues.  When I email a staff member about getting tutoring for my players, I get NO response.  None!  And then when trouble hits the fan, it's too late...It's wearing.  It's a grind.  It's frustrating.  On the other hand, I know where it is that I'm supposed to be.  We're 4-0.  But it's not really my work.  When you believe in Him and honor Him, he will put you in the best position to succeed.  I'm living proof of that.  I just try to execute His game plan.
