I always precall until I know they can make the read.

I run a Loaded Option and I make the call.  Until the QB understands what to do and when you have to make that call based on what you see.

Coach, with kids in your age group it can be taught....we ran it last spring with 13 and 14 year olds, and they could make the read on the 5 tech or OLB...that said, it took a whole ton of reps in practice...

That said, there were times when the QB already had it in his mind whether he was going to give or pull prior to calling cadence....you could see by looking at the film, his head never came up to look at his read. So there is a discipline issue to it as well...or maybe a trust issue...or maybe both.

Did they ever blow reads, oh yes they did...but over all, if they ran the play the way it was coached, they got the read right probably 90% of the time. And this was spring ball, so only two practices a week....tons of reps...
None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.

You can use the ride and decide but this is indeed quicker.  I would point out two things.

A) there is a HUGE HOLE IN THE DEFENSE in the second clip. A QB with a "head on his shoulders" would see what happens with the Motion and GIVE regardless.

B) Just being an OLD FASHIONED GUY, the Ride sells it better.  Especially against an aggressive defense.

Being mindful that we are talking about the YOUTH GAME, the emphasis has to be on the QB and teaching the Read.

Just Dusty throwing rust dust around.
