Pistol Wing T
« on: September 01, 2012, 12:15:45 PM »
Is there any place where I can look up info on the Pistol Wing T? I'm talking about ateial on running Delaware style buck, down, belly series out of Pistol, not the Ski-Gun triple option.

And before someone mentions "Use the search engine," I did and nothing came up  :-\. Thanks in advanced.

I just watched west covina dismantle the slow to act pistol wing T with heavy pressure...I liked the pistol wing T on paper, and I still like it if you have a good solid O line & O line coach & good speed in backfield coupled with a good running QB that can also pass..= you know a stud QB. IMO if you dont have 2 of these 3 dont try it, but with 2 of these 3 it "can" work..if ya got all 3...well quite frankly you cvan make whatever system you want work!

What I saw was a wing T style pistol with no jet sweep from the pistol wing T. IMO the jet sweep wuld have made a difference but without it the backs were getting mauled in the backfield over and over...so Covina had a lesser team but the pistol didnt make up the difference instead it accentuation it!

There's also a DCWT playbook floating around on this site as well.

WHEN YOU SAY PISTOL WING t are you meaning I want to line up in a offense formation that looks the most like Delaware wing T base alignment and I would like to run plays as close as possible to the Delaware wing T albeit from direct snap?

Is that with the player behind center assuming the roles of both QB & FB?

I did, but I didn't see the player in that position running anything like the FB would, so I don't think that's as close as possible to Del. wing T.  I think you'd need a FB behind him to give that impression.

I showed both versions that you can find on you tube, Modesto Christian has the offset dive back
I think Cox has same formation or something very similiar now with his pistol?? But to respond to your question I suppose the QB could run a boot roll out or a up the gut trap that would just take a call.

The type of thrown-snap offense that most closely looked to me like wing T was The Saint offense, a recent development by a HS coach in one of the western but not coastal states which he had a set of videos up about but seemed to have been taken down a couple yrs. ago.  It included a dive-sweep-waggle series of the type you can only get when there's a back deep behind the QB, but they were staggered very slightly so either one could take the snap.

If you use Goggle, you'll find a boatload of information.
There is a Shotgun Wing T website.
Also try Rick Stewart's DVD series on the Pistol Wing T. Good stuff.

Does Coach Stewart runs his offense with a zone blocking scheme or wing t scheme (gap, down, backer)? What the coach I'm helping this year wants to run basically 20/80 series. Would like to go over some schemes here to be sure.

I haven't seen all his blocking schemes, but it is based off traditional Wing-T blocking. That's what he shows in his '20 Core Running Plays' DVD.
