Amazing Kicker
« on: May 14, 2018, 10:59:12 PM »
Our Spring Team kicker just nailed a 45 yard FG last Saturday that could have cleared another 10 yards.

Before the season is done we will give him a shot at 50+.

The CHSSA record is 67. He has the next 4 years to break it.  :)

BTW I coached the kid that holds the CHSSA #2 all time longest FG. He sits at 64. He played for my Semi Pro team for 3 years.

But you are in the thin air... :P

Awesome!
None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.

The best kicker in the history of my former org was a girl. She went on to play for one of Joe's high school teams.

The best kicker in the history of my high school was a girl.  Only missed like 2 FGs and 1 XP in 4 years.

Our org had an 8th grade kicker this past season who was pretty close to that good - with the thin air maybe that good.  He pounded the ball.  Stud TB too, one of the best players in eastern MA. Unfortunately, he might be even better at soccer.

Will be interesting to see what he does next year as a freshman.  Right now he's a big dude, but I don't think he's going to grow much more.  Dad isn't very big.  Brazilian family.  Dad and older brother are pro-football, but uncles are all big time soccer, played semi-pro, blah blah blah.  I coached him at 9-10. He was really contact averse then, but you could see some innate talent running the ball.

He still doesn't crave contact - a few too many arm tackles, and running out of bounds at times vs. through a guy.  Although he will run through a guy, it just doesn't seem to be his default mode.  Example - I was on the sideline for a game, and he had a nice 8-10 yard run and kind of rode the tackle out of bounds right in front of me, staying on his feet. As he was turning to go back in, I caught his eyes and said "really?  Run through his little ass".  I got a nod and a "yes coach".  A few plays later, similar play again on our sideline, he trucked the kid. He caught my eye and I nodded this time.

So he seems to enjoy playing.

The problem is that he gets more out of his default level of aggression and physicality on the soccer pitch - he intimidates the crap out of those kids, not as much so on the football field.

Jaw dropping in 14Us.  Although considering some of the kids I've coached in 10-13s, not surprising there'd be some around like that.

Awesome!

That and the drier, therefore lighter ball.
