What is this formation?
« on: September 04, 2014, 11:35:45 PM »
Saw this formation ran by a local high school who's primary offense is the I formation?  Is it the inverted wishbone/ diamond formation or other.  Qb under center.

It's either double slot or diamond T/diamond I/diamond.

I've seen this, but it was from a pistol set, not under center.

It is a flex bone formation, but we call it Wing Open.

This is what matters. Formations are window dressing.

We called it "easy"

H and Y are off x and z always on...it was "easy" haha

We motioned and shifted the H and Y a lot out of this. Me personally I hated it

I don't think so in this case. Dietritus is probably asking because he wants to know, if he sees it at his level, what plays he should expect to be run out of it.

Of course it matters Bob. You can run flexbone, wing t, single back, dw, the list goes on and on. No one here can tell him what to expect because the formation is not an offense, it is simply a formation. I can run dw from a spread  formation but that doesn't make it spread. Heck, look at all that Jack has out there as far as formations. You could run his offense from about 30 formations and someone could see one of his formations and ask what it is. He could be totally sent in the wrong direction. My guess is that since the hs team in question is an I formation they might be running veer from I and using a flexbone formation also.

The school is Lexington Minutemen( white). Did some research and found post game high lights. Here is the link:
2009 Tuscola Warriors- State Title

If you skip to the 6:16 mark, you can see the formation in question. Also, through out the high lights, its is run some.

Has anyone figured what formation this is?
