Weve NEVER coached or told kids to crouch down
Our stance is just low enough so the kids fingertips touch the top of the grass
No need for low butts etc

We moved the kids in tighter and tips to the grass back in 2002
So very early on
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

Hi,Coach Dave...thanks for your response. My initial intent was to compare a more traditional 2-pt stance to your "fingertips touching the grass" stance. I didn't mean crouching with the low butts.

A little off-topic rant but I think some of you guys are giving way too much power and getting too influenced by what parents say/think, most of them if not all of them, who are uninformed about the game of football anyways

Typical parent thinking

1st down: (after failed 1st down run) COACH YOU NEED TO THROW THE FOOTBALL!!!
2nd down: (3-4 yard gain) COACH THEY KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO RUN THE FOOTBALL!! THROW IT!
3rd down: (80 yard TD run) GREAT CALL COACH!

This all happens while you're trying to see how defenses are reacting and working to set-up plays. Of course uninformed parents are oblivious to all of this and thinks every play should go for a TD.

Not in a rude manner but I've also welcomed them to come out and I would gladly talk football with them because I love to talk football. I also remind them to bring a whiteboard and an expo marker so we can talk X & O's. I haven't seen a parent yet so I guess they don't want to talk football after all :(

This is a bit different because the UBSW is a bit different and the backfield stances are a bit different with Daves Version.

Example.

2nd Grade team from my Org ( same age group as my team ) goes 11 and 0 and wins all the marbles running Daves UBSW.

3rd grade season same team goes 10 and 1 losing all the marbles running Daves UBSW.

Parents absolutely hate the Offense because its "funny looking". They are now 21-1 running that funny looking Offense. At the Banquet the Agents demand change. Header tells them to pound sand.

Parent threaten to leave the Org. Board steps in and replaces the Header so he takes his kid to another Org and has never coached a down of football since. These kids will be 8th graders this Fall.

In the meantime another team a year younger than my age group runs Daves UBSW. As 2nd graders they go 11 and 0 and win all the marbles. Their 3rd grade season they hear about the team a year older and decide to do the same thing....threaten to leave the Org if their Header does not change. He does so he does not get fired.

Board now will no longer allow ANY NEW TEAM to run Daves UBSW only because they are sick of the push back from the Agents after a year or two....and these are championship teams we are talking about here.

They refer to it as the Bear Chitting in the Woods Offense. They wont even respect it enough to call it what it really is...the UBSW...and a damn good one.

So...the OP is just being pro active here and the Agents do have a say at the youth level when as a group...they are unhappy.

Whats really dumb here....if Dave had settled in on the Pistol Power I and had the Backs crouch and then shared his systems with the masses like he does now....the Agents probably would not say boo. They just like to bitch about things they dont see on TV.

Still...I complete agree with your Post.

Crouching backs were eliminated about 3 years ago because we had too much success in our league.   It just caused so much heartache that I had to either quit or conform.  I now run UBSW with backs in a traditional 2 point, some Doc Ward spin stuff, with backs at 3 yards.. run more  Spread and spinner stuff for deception works ok but never as good as the crouch.

This year I think I'm going to go with a 3-point stance for 1,2,3 backs,   It works fine with the 3-back.  We'll see how much heartache this causes thinking I'll stand up 1-back for SW Spread...jet  but put them in 3 point for all other formations.

Anybody else run 1,2,3 backs in a 3-point stance?
