The ol fake fumble wedge
« on: September 18, 2017, 01:45:37 PM »
Busted out the old fake fumble wedge for the first time ever yesterday.  Ended up being the first touchdown our opponent has given up so far this season.

Now I just have to await ruling from the League Pres if it is legal or not in our league... There is a vague rule about trick plays in the rule book.  The heart of that rule is to prevent those stupid wrong ball plays, and it also calls out the fumblerooski. So I am not sure how it is going to go.

The wrong ball type plays I get why they are illegal but anything that happens after the snap is game on in my book.

This is the copy and pasted rule that they are trying to say I broke with the play:

D. "Trick Plays” Prohibited
Prohibited “trick plays” include but are not limited to “wrong ball”, “hideout”, “fumblerooski”,
etc. No deceptive practices, actions or vocalizations that deceive the opponent that there
might a “problem” with the ball. Penalty: Unsportsmanlike Conduct on the Head Coach.

They are applying the vocalization part and that the problem with the ball is that it was "fumbled".  That part of the rule is clearly meant for the dumb coach, this is the wrong ball as the player walks it to the sideline after a legal snap.

No matter the decision, the play stood in our game, we lost, but we did add another touchdown on a nice drive.  The kids loved the play, they asked to run it as our first play.  It was great!

How does a fake fumble or whatever indicate that anything is wrong with the ball?  I would ask the league to then throw a flag on every pass that is caught by the other team. "There must be something wrong with that football, we can't seem to get our hands on it when it's in the air." ::)

Well the play is outlawed.  I don't get it, but I cant really fight it.  To me it is no different than a fake punt.

Well if you can't fake a fumble I guess you can't fake a handoff, fake a run/pass option, fake an option pitch by the QB and keep it, snap the ball on two or try and make the defense jump with a hard count, can't reverse pivot out the QB under center, can't wrong way pull a guard, or anything else that "fakes" or "deceives" the defense into thinking you are doing something that you aren't. Wow, it would be tough playing/coaching in your league...

It is actually a very well run league.  This is the first problem I have come across.

So I guess a DC yelling "Pass!" out when it really is a run would be illegal. I here that crap all the time.

Ha, I would love the other teams DC to yell pass during a run play.

They yell all kinds of stuff. Watch this, watch that. Confuse the heck out of the players. My old header would do it. Thing is, he was very often right. Guy was a scout maniac. He picked up on the smallest little details. Most guys don't even come close. When they get it right it is pure luck or they just shouted out every play the other team runs and they go up and down the sideline patting themselves on the back. Silly. I shit you not though, my old header would nail teams. Uncanny really.

Its a 30 Wedge, run it with Mouse, on the snap of the ball, the 1 2 and 4 all turn and run away from the LOS as if the snap went past them.  And they yell fumble while doing it.

So, instead, just have your backs fake a criss cross or spinner play. Defense watches the backfield action and by the time they figure out where the ball is, its gone!
And it's totally legal!
You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles!

Just sprint to a point 10 yards behind the los and dive at nothing an ant pile.
