Yep, me too, but I was "double teamed" by the OC and the HC.

Me: We can't throw to him. He's ineligible.
HC: [blink blink] But he's a Tight End.
Me: He's not an end. He's covered.
HC: [scrunchy face] But he's a Tight End.
OC: What's going on?
Me: Can't throw to him. He's ineligible.
OC: [getting angry] What are you talking about? He's a Tight End!
Me: No he's not. He's not any kind of end because he's covered.
OC: [confusion at first, then turning to rage] You're an idiot! What the hell difference does it make if the defense covers him or not?!!!
Me: Not the defense. He's covered by the WR (pointing).
OC: You're an idiot (walks away).
Me: (To the HC): Coach, I'm telling you, he's ineligible.
HC: But he's a Tight End . . . .

Reminded me of that scene in "This is Spinal Tap"
Reporter: Why not make 10 louder?
Nigel: But this one goes to 11 . . .

Fast forward about 3 weeks. We finally complete a pop pass to our ineligible "long tackle". OC blows a gasket and gets kicked out of the game after our "ineligible man downfield" penalty.

HC(after the dust settles): But he's a Tight End . . .

Reminds me of the Jeff Foxworthy joke about his dad (or somebody) driving drunk and getting pulled over.

"Sir, about your boat..."

"Are you telling me I can't haul a boat in the state of Michigan?  ARE YOU TELLING ME I CAN'T HAUL A BOAT IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN?"

"No, sir.  You're welcome to haul a boat.  But we do require you to have a trailer."

Been there also. I won't say I'm some rules guru but come on man. Parents crack me up thinking NFL and NCAA rules apply. PI is a biggie they don't understand.

When I coached six-year-olds we had to face a team that used the "center sneak."

Played them at least three times and they ran it every time.

Only one of the games had officials.  The others were "officiated" by the coaches.

It was a bitch.

What? The center can not run the ball? Where do our leagues find these guys?

That's essentially how the team supposedly representing Scotland supposedly won the supposed 1st international rugby match.  The supposed Scottish national team was a bunch of supposed Scots who got together to play against a home team representing England.  Scotland was awarded a scrum near the English goal line, and one of them simply picked up the ball & rushed it or had his teammates maul him over the goal line -- essentially the center sneak.  The English players figured, oh, well, I guess that's legal in Scotland, which it wasn't, and these guys didn't play in Scotland anyway.

The snap count I taught was, "Ready, set...go, one, two, three...."  "Go" is the motion signal, but some of our plays go on "go" (so no motion), and most of the rest on "one".  Tim tonight changed it from "one" to "hut", so that a play "on 1" would go on the 1st "hut".  Our players, esp. our snapper, weren't getting it.  Tim, can we change it back to a literal count of "one, two," etc.?  "No, because I want to add some things."  Huh?  I think he might want "hut, hut, hut" because that's what the pros do.  I just want to make it simple for kids so they don't have to count, and when they actually hear the word "one", they get it.
Our 1st & 3rd-string snapper (& some other players) are still not getting "go on 1" via "hut", so tonight I asked again if we can change back to the literal word "one", etc., and Tim still refused.  And this time like Gumby in Colo. I'm the one thinking it's like the amp that goes up to 11 when both Tim & AC Dennis tell me it'd be too easy for the other team to anticipate the count if we say, "1, 2," etc. rather than "hut, hut," etc.

Some of the things that people do and say sometimes really cause me to become extremely frustrated becuase I can't decide if I want to cry, scream, or laugh hysterically.

Ditto.  Sometimes, people don't want any idea that is not their own, so you wait until they stumble upon something or there is a problem.

I try to explain to people that none of what we do is new.  Someone, somewhere has done almost the exact same thing.  Except usually those people learned from other's mistakes, refined things and have improved on it.  We can try and reinvent the wheel or we can make sure that we can execute on the existing idea.  However, many people want to just do the X and O thing because it is easier to start with and, if it doesn't work, you can just blame it on the players.

To be fair, we were all pretty new. I just happened to do a lot of online research. That's how I got the nick name "Coach Google". It was not given in good fun.

Man, I really don't want to out this guy, but a local HS coach came to one of our practices and pointed to our "long tackle" and said, "He can't leave the LOS because he's covered." HC's response was a blank stare, followed by "Oh. Yeah." I think he eventually figured it out.

Another argument I had with him was according to him, you must have 7 men on the LOS. This meant that having 8 was illegal. Good times.

Had that come up when I was coaching the little guys.  Other team had eight guys on the LOS and some of our assistants started yelling that it was illegal.  I had to yell at our own guys to shut up.
