Sad Day
« on: October 07, 2018, 07:09:46 PM »
John Gagliardi, the former head coach of Division III St. John's (Minn.), died at 91 on Sunday morning, six years after he ended his 60-year career with the Johnnies in 2012.

His abiity to get his players to buy in and understand was amazing.  No Play Book!   Just instruction and trust!

There are at least 3 books about the man.  I have one of them (“The Sweet Season”).  He’s a great subject for a book because he was an incredibly interesting man.  His 2003 national championship win over Mount Union was a great game and a match-up of 2 legends (Gagliardi and Kehres).

I was thumbing through Coaching 101, written by my HS Alma Mater Header Don Schnake.  He mentions Coach G in his acknowledgements.  The Book is 20 years Old.

What I've wondered is whether the Joe Gagliardi I knew at NY Medical College was related to him.  Joe was the star of the hockey team, & had played at Yale.
