Small Town sh*t
« on: April 29, 2015, 12:01:24 AM »
Gossip Kills! Gossip is Cancer! Gossip get the Pitch Forks and Torches lit before the rally!

I may likely lose my volunteer job as Coach because I voiced my opinion in a topic related to another sport.   Why?  Because I asked folks for calm over a friggin Pitching Machine and what happened to same.  Mind you it was a Pitching Machine that no one kept up with or monitored, until recently, since my son played 5th Grade Baseball some 7 years ago.  Even then it was held together with Bailing Wire and Duct Tape and only worked about every 3rd pitch.

Now, its disappearance, has the community up in arms with Torches and Pitch Forks ready to destroy Frankenstein's Monster! No facts in hand, No City Council Input.....Just burn them!

Lots of brave folks behind keyboards who dont realize in a town of 2000 I will find you!

Run me outta town! So over this crap!

I have been the quarry for a small town hunt. It's tough. It took time, but I got through it... Don't do all the things you really want to...hit, smash, scream, yell, etc. That just gives them more to shoot at. Hang in there. Stay rational.

Shad

The hassles of being in a small town can be frustrating
The same rumors and gossip happen in big cities- Ive coached in both

Consider coaching elsewhere- even for a competitor or a program in the nearest big city if it's doable
My wife grew up and went to school in a Catholic school on the edge of a city of about 50,000
The most successful football coach they ever had, a legend,  lived about 25 miles away- he was out of all the gossip/drama buddy buddy favoritism that destroys most good things. Worth a look, best of luck

If you need help in finding a gig- my newsletter hits over 25,000 youth coaches- be happy to run a free add for you there.
However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

It is definitely a drag. I have to deal with it in multiple sports and it is a real pain in the ass.  It is really awful when it impacts people who just want to coach and really don't need the associated drama.

I know full well that things will get around and, by the time someone actually asks me, the conversation will be completely distorted.  I can take the heat but its completely unnecessary.

Get the facts first, present the facts so that everyone has the same understanding as well as an opportunity to find a remedy for the situation.

Curious.

What defines a Small town? Never lived in one myself except when I was a ski bum way back in the day. Less than 100K...500K?

If they have a sign announcing you're downtown, it's a small town.

Find out what happened to it and have the police arrest whoever stole it.  Probably a felony.  Chances are that whoever is jumping down your throat is responsible.

ok ok nobody is accusing anybody here OK...and then the inevitable...BUUUUUT...I dont know, gees you seem awfully defensive. And if you really dont care...gees you seem awfully uninterested in the subject..almost as if your attempting to avoid it.

Reminds me of George Carlin, for you youngsters he is a comedian...

“Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?” "ya really gotta to watch out for the guy that goin the same speed as you, huh? no what I mean? thier the perverts!"

After all the Sabre Rattling one person went to the City and was told that the unit was sold in error and will be replaced.

Perspective.  There is literally one Stop Light in the entire county.

Gents, 99% of the time its a quiet little hamlet.  However, when that 1% happens!!

So we are talking a dot on the map?

Yeah...

County population - 12,950
City seat of government population - 1,839
(Numbers are from United States Census Bureau, dated 2013)
