@ paketterman - Are you in Texas? I watched that kid live in the state semi-finals that year and he was the real deal. There entire team was the real deal. Very well coached team.

I did a little research today.
Look on bookfinder.com for: Jack Maddox  Tight Slot Football.
Seeing it on YouTube clips is more impressive than looking at the diagrams in the book, but at least you see the schemes drawn up.

Ohhh gotcha coach, my bad! The team i followed is Rogers high school in Rogers, TX.

They ran the slot-t for 7(?) years until the HC resigned two years ago to spend more time with his family!

According to Amazon I bought it back in April. Now I just need to find it lol. Did you think the stuff in the book looked liked the slot-t or did you find YouTube clips of a team running what's in the book?

It's pretty close to the YouTube clips, but the videos gives you a much better idea of how deceptive the plays can be.
The book was published in like 1986 or so, it definitely predates the videos you'll see.
Just interesting to see the plays diagramed, since these days you have to be a part of the "Inner Circle" to get a Texas Slot-T playbook.

There are a couple of other Slot T books around:

Winning Football with the Strategic Slot   Henry Harlow  1969
Slot T Football  Max Spilsbury  1961
Football's Multiple Slot T Attack  Jim McClain  1974

all of these are available for a very reasonable amount via BookFinder.com
The McClain book is probably the best of the 3.

Guys,

Why so much desire to run the slot T? You do know that Texas uses NCAA rules that allow cut blocking outside the box correct? That ability to "Cut" is a BIG thing for the " Gulf Coast Slot Offense" Aw....just gave up the password to the inner circle  :o

Here are a few play lists off emails 10 years ago.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John

our freshmen ran (they were 7-3 with the 5 best freshman on jv, totally
suprised us because we thought we were weak)as 7th graders before we got
here they had won one game in the wishbone.

234
243
333
349
8hr
318 run
pass 318
pass 319
pass 318 throwback

our jv ran (10-0 scored 338 points and allowed 8, we have won 20 straight jv
games)

234/236
243
332
333
349
338 (sweep, not original slot-t)
8 hr
318 run
143 ld
143 xld
122
pass 318/pass 319  + throwbacks
800 flood
some 3 step (fade mostly)

Varsity ran all of the jv stuff plus a jet sweep series, and a shotgun
series which were pretty much 300 series plays (varsity 6-4 scored 240
points, and rushed for 3300 yards)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Coach,

The slot-t actually derived from the power I.  What they did was take the
tailback (2 back) in the back of the I and put him in the slot.  The
Fullback (3 back) and the Halfback (4 back) are lined up where they would be
if you were in the power I.

The plays are that our Jr. High runs are

234/6
228
243 Tackle Trap
332
328
349
8 Hole Reverse
and Pass 319 Drag
