Six years. I did my A School in Orlando, Prototype in Charleston, then served aboard the Enterprise in Norfolk.

...and now I sell Air Conditioning.

Let's be honest....it's a much better life than the Nuke life.  That's why I'm a former, and an Admin Officer now.

Downright chilling at times!

Yeah. Nuke life, and my perspective of military life at the time, was not a good gig for me. I love being a part of a team but the organizations I was a part of were not what I would have described as a "team". But that's just sour grapes.

Now I actually get to be "creative"?

Full time youth Head Football Coach.  On the side I am a Hydropower Plant Electrician.  Ex-Marine with a son in the USMC, daughter in Army, an 18 year old son planning to join the Navy after graduation, and my baby is FB on his H.S. freshman team after 5 years on my team.

Update:

Still a Hydropower Plant Electrician.  Got transferred from Tennessee to Virginia in 2015.  Head Coach of the Patrick County Middle School Cougars in Stuart Va.

Oldest son pulled his five years in the USMC and works on helicopters at Pax River Navy Base in Maryland.

Daughter didn't make it in the Army but she gave birth to my first grandbaby Ella last year, was love at first sight for me.

That 18 year old joined the Army and is out now trying to figure out what to do with his life.

The baby son is now in college planning to teach and coach football.  He is an assistant on my team and an assistant varsity baseball coach also.

I still spend a lot of time on Dumcoach when everything is running smooth at the powerhouse.

Went back and don’t think I ever posted anything about the original topic. So here it is.

I work Industrial Wastewater Treatment. They dirty it, I clean it. Been doing it since 1994.
I am married and have 3 kids. My oldest (19) is serving in the Navy as Master at Arms and less than a month away from making me a Grandfather for the first time.  Graduated my second son from HS just today. Now I have to survive my daughter, who just finished her freshman year.

Man time flies.

So I didn't get the job I applied for but I am moving to a new role at my current job. I will now be in a department that handles escalations when other agents are unable to obtain payments. It isn't a raise but it will be a nice change.

BC ER doc and toxicologist who now runs high acuity UC centers, we don't turn much away. Niche has become concussion care of all things.

Rather be a FT dad and FB coach.(naturally the job has afforded me the luxury of resources)

Last year for the latter  :-[ dammit

Left a healthcare company on a downward spiral this past November after 18.5 years where I was an individual contributor as a Technical/Infrastructure Architect in Information Technology for a Senior Manager of Infrastructure position at a local Wealth Management Firm.  Fortunately having wealth wasn't a prerequisite for the job  :).  Getting back to having to manage people has been a bit of a change, but gratefully my years of coaching youth sports has prepared me well since many adults act like kids  :). With that said, taking this job has truly been a blessing for me as I thought that I might have to relocate to find what was looking for.

Unemployed.  *#7@$.

Frustrating as hell.  Had an inside track, as in a great connection to a key decision maker on job, for like 4 jobs.  ALL of them fell through.  One job was put on hold, one job changed the reporting structure so I lost my connection, one decided to roll the dice with an inexperienced internal candidate (which I fully support except when it hurts me, LOL), and one is a longer story, but a dysfunctional company that showed it.

Lost a couple of other opportunities where they changed up the job to a lower level position.

And lost as a finalist for a position where I'm still not sure what happened, apparently the company's recruiting manager was stunned they didn't offer me.  Somebody had a bug up their ass about me.

Sigh.  It's a numbers game, and I hate it.

Sometimes it not what they think about you, but that they have a buddy who they want to give it to.  Regardless, don't beat up yourself about it.  You can't change it.

John, in the case of my interview yesterday, I want the job.  But if I don't get it, that's on them.  I was able to interview for it and that's enough for me.  I stated my case with them.  If they'd rather have someone else, then it's their loss.  (Or gain, if they choose a better candidate.)  Regardless, I just want the opportunity to interview.

I'm actually doing a decent job of not beating myself up about it.  Which is a bit surprising.

Doesn't change the stress and frustration.  I still have some time ($), but not a lot of it...

Which adds to the stress, I'm sure.  But you never know what you missed; it could have been a crap job.  Keep looking forward.  Every job I had was better than the previous one.  Kinda like my approach to GFs.  ;)
