Yup!  With a decent shot at them being in the same bracket.

Tell me when that is.  If we get bounced out soon enough, Deb and I are headed to Illinois to check up on the latest stages of the house reno.  It'd be cool to match up our trip with the same weekend you play, if all the stars get lined up.

Eh, I just get to watch my boy from the stands.  Dcooz and I have chatted a bit but it was in good faith, so I am not going to spill the beans on anything he has sent me or we talked about.

And only info I will give Dcooz is to let #8 score if he gets a carry.

Brackets are out, if Dcooz wins in round 1, they will move on to play my sons team.  Game would be Sunday November 4th, time TBD.

Remember, #8 on our team has a highly contagious disease, so keep your defenders away.

We play in the conference championship this Saturday.  If we lose, we’re done.  (Unless we participate in one of those sorry “let’s see if we can play some sucker so that we can go out on a winning note and feel better about ourselves” game.  If we win, then we’ll be playing a regional playoff game on November 3.  So I hope I can make it up there, but not really.

Its going down on Sunday.  Not really a DumCoach battle, but one DumCoach, and 2 DumCoach kids.  Kickoff is at 1:00.   Can make it a double header, my team is the game before hand, we start at 11:30.

Man what a weekend,  Saturday was a beautiful fall day, sun was shining, not much wind, comfortable temperature... We played on Sunday, which was windy, rainy and cold.  I have coached in worse weather, but probably a top 3 worst weather game for me.

We start on D, they get 9.8 yards, and we force a 4 and out.  They come out on D... totally different than what was expected.  Crap.  Our game plan was to beat them outside, with sweeps and 23 keeps and speeds, and XX.  They are heavily defending the outside.  We played this team in regular season, we had success with 38 toss, but we did most of our damage with 23 and 24.  I figured they had our week 9 game film, and saw us just abuse our opponent with 23 and 24.  But nope they were hell bent on us making us beat them pounding the middle.  We do just that, scoring on a 25 yard TD running 24.  32 Trap for the PAT is good.

D get another stop, we get back to work, 36 Power toss is wide open, call it get a nice gain, HB tries to do much though, and fumbles the ball, after picking up about 12 yards.  We exchange turnovers on downs, they have the ball with about 3 minutes left in the half.  They get a drive going.  We have looked rusty all half, I could not find a scrimmage for us for our bye week, and they are gaining momentum.  They get down to the 1, run a QB sneak and we stuff it, and we are saved by the bell, huuuuuuuuge swing for us.  Halftime could not have came at a better point.  We go in to the locker room up 7-0 and we get the ball.  We regroup, come out in the 2nd half, drive a little bit, then my QB slips on a handoff and we lose a fumble.

Defense comes back on the field... we look much different.  Rust is gone, they cannot move the ball on us anymore.  We get the ball back, exchange some turnovers on downs again.  We need to score, they have a player who can house it anytime, he is faster than anyone on our team.  We need that 2nd score.  We still cannot get anything outside, they have not adjusted at all, we have been up the middle all game.  Poking every once in awhile outside, but they are not biting.  So we keep going up the middle.  They finally adjust, 47 speed is going to be wide open... we fumble the handoff, QB footwork is bad, we have 4th and 8, at their 30... Dial up a 38 toss.  We pick up 10 yards.  Huge 4th down conversion.  We run a 24, their DE is not even coming across at all, he is just sliding down and makes a diving tackle for about a 3 yard gain.  We block that DE, easy TD. Call in a no play, to see if we can get a free 5, they don't bite, call a time out.  Call 24 again, tell the WB instead of going through the hole, go in motion, and then back track and block the DE, there really is not anyone for him to block anyways.  Only kid who had a chance at making a tackle on this play was the NT who got driven back by my RG.  That kid got stiff armed to the ground, and TD.  That 2 score margin is huge.

There is about 2 minutes left. First play of their drive, my NT breaks through hits the QB as he is throwing and my DE makes a lunging interception.  We cannot knee out the clock yet as they have one timeout.  But if we take knees, it is a controlled play, so no blocking, they cant fire off.  So we take 3 knees, they call their last time out.  I go out and tell them to run 18 sweep, but tell the QB not to worry about gaining yards, just run around in the back field as long as possible and once you are about to be tackled just go down. Works great, takes 10 second off the clock, they have 17 seconds, they run one play its get stuffed.  Ball game.  On to the championship!

Defense really came out that 2nd half.  0 first downs that half.

We have a tough match up.  We beat this team 6-0 in week 9, but they were missing one of their better players, who happens to be the son of Frank Thomas.  Weather looks like it will be very cold... but dry.

Will be a bittersweet week for sure!  I have had a ton of fun with this group of kids.

Brian, what's bittersweet about it?  You're winning.  And guess what, there's another group of great kids right around the corner.  Look forward to them.

Congratulations on the big win. So how did the Dumcoach coach v. Dumcoach kid match up go?

It went to the dumcoach coach.  They played right after our game, and by the time I got done addressing my team, and cleaning up, it was 13-0, and by time I got in the stands by my wife, it was 20-0, I guess our 3 first offensive plays were lost fumbles.

Dcooz did a great job calling plays.  Now I will be able to happily pull for him in his championship game.
