Championship Week
« on: October 24, 2018, 12:29:57 PM »
We play the conference championship game this Saturday against our Week 1 opponent.  They have 1 loss this year (to us), while we are undefeated.  They played us very close (we only won by 2) and they run an excellent Single Wing.  This will be the 12th conference championship that I've been a part of, if we win and the 10th undefeated season.   It's been an adjustment going back to youth ball, but not an unpleasant overall experience and as such I could be open to this possibility for next season.  However, I am far more comfortable as a header, than as an AC.  I know I don't want to serve in this capacity, yet could do so if I also had a school team.  Then the time constraints would make this not only more attractive, but practical.  If we win on Saturday, the first two rounds of the regional playoffs are local (Raleigh and Durham), an advantage and convenience that I never had as a header.  The 3rd Round is out of state.  All in all, I have enjoyed my group of o-linemen this year, and I can never understand why this position is the hardest to find coaches for, as generally speaking the kids who play this spot have the least amount of ego and respond the best to coaching and attention.  Regardless, the season either ends this Saturday, or it's the first game of our post-season.  We'll see...

Preach it, Brother! I love my goofy gaggle of misfits. Having said that, I told Mahonz tonight that starting this off season I want to start training next year's o-line coach. Coaching one group for too long makes me too one-dimensional.

Tito, we have two brackets in our Division.  We finished in first place in our bracket and our opponent finished in first place in their bracket.  Thus, we play each other in the championship game.

Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe, on his offensive line:

"I spend a lot of time on our Oline. Sometimes I get picked on about it. They have to be selfless. I love them! Heart and soul of the team.  They are the greatest humans in football. They have no official statistic, think about it. We make them up, what we call them, pancake blocks? Come on man, that donít show up in the stats. D linemen get hurries, sacks, fumble recoveries....do they go in the books, fumble recoveries?? Thatís a bad statistic, buddy. So you know what they care about?? The team. The scoreboard is the only stat they pay attention to.Ē

Good luck Coach!

Appreciate it, Dan.  We're having really tough practices this week.  We'll see how it prepares us for Saturday.  We had a really difficult time with their Tailback on opening day.  He probably ran for 100+ yards and seemingly got 2 out of 3 carries.  If we can handle him, we should be okay.  If we don't, it will be a very long day...

High tomorrow of 65 and cloudy.  It's raining all day today.  We'll play on a nice, muddy field.  Double Wing against Single Wing.  We are (fortunately) the second game of the day.  Thank goodness we aren't Game #6.
