Jake,

I used to run an offense that based out of a similar formation to your wing-t. Most people thought it was wing-t. Everything upfront was veer...IOL rules. Dive was the first play in the series.

The wrinkle we had for dive was that we brought the wing in motion to the dive side and he blocked the DE...kicked him or simply shielded shielded him off....our wings were usually smaller fast guys so the block wasn't devastating like a pulling guard kick-out. As soon as the DE started to fight that block and squeeze down we would let the motion go all the way through and option that DE.

You may not need that or maybe you already do that. For us it made dive more than just a setup play. We were also unbalanced to the dive side. It made coaches crazy because it looks like an A/B gap run from the sidelines so they would stack their LB's in those gaps. In reality it was a C gap run and those LB's were getting washed down...back's bend it out after crossing the LOS.

Good call! Great minds think alike (we were still reverse pivoting at this time on OSV. Now we just open to it).
https://www.hudl.com/v/2APUL5

We’re going to try a tackle trap w/ our “5 back” (the nasty split “TE” you see on the left) off OSV. Will let you know how it works.

On a side note, bringing our SE in and creating this nasty splkt “5 back position”, has really opened up a lot of options in the offense.

It's all about having fun.  But losing aint fun!

Yeah...so our SE to the play sided was in a nasty split...that allowed us to crack the OLB to get that bend path for the ball carrier. It also sets him up to run an arrow off of play action when we would run option pass with a roll out to his side.

That LB'r get blocked down 10-15 times and he starts to brace for it. The crack comes at him then breaks back out to the flat for the ball. We would run that 2-3 x's/ game for bigger plays and to get him some touches. there is also a dirty counter play to that SE.

That version of dive was really good for us. When the kids got older... we would run mid-line to that same side as that PSDT started to fight the down blocks.

Most of our concepts were very similar to your wing-t stuff. The only real difference was that we were always working our way toward triple option.

Almost identical action to our dive!

Moved to 5-0. 55-32 win. Looking more & more like we wont be tested until playoffs.

Just a reminder how much a good ride & ball fake can do for your offense. Our QB has zero pressure, can set up & get the ball off on time, in large part due to just a great ride & fake.

We won 12-6 in OT. The D only gave up one big play on a reverse, other than that, we shut them down. Offense is still a work in progress. We play a cupcake next week and we will give our back ups plenty of work. Then it is on to a murderer's row of a 3 game stretch.

Lol. I’ve thought the same thing a few times. Granted this team is more talented than my JV team. But we’ve actually expanded the offense that we normally run w/ the JV’s.

We rolled today 26-0. Score could have been much worse. And it wasn't that we played that good, they were just that bad. Just put it this way, we scored on the first play of the game and no one knew the QB had the ball until he was past the safety.

52-20 win. Mercy rule was unavoidable this game.

Our all sub D keeps improving. They’re starting to get stops. Even got a pick today. Makes avoiding the mercy rule difficult, but really cool to see.

Offense was business as usual. Did hit our version of the Philly special. I’ll post it when we get film uploaded.

We had 3 more passing TD’s today. Also hit a pass for the conversion. Could be wrong, but i’m pretty sure we’re hitting passes at a WAAAAY higher rate than is typical at this level. Perhaps not in volume, but certainly in effiency.

Can’t remember which thread it was in, but we talked about belly sweep pass w/ buck blocking, and dragging our BSTE accross the back to free up the PSTE.

Here it is. Was very effective.

As we get more into this outside veer stuff, we’ve thought about using quick passes in lieu of an option pitch. Here’s an example of it. (Notice the mega splits w/ our TE’s).

They were so fired up to run it. We installed it the night before. O-line, backs, everyone wanted to run it. I hesitated for a second, just cuz it was a blowout. But i’m not gonna rib my kids fun to worry about the other coaches feelings. Our all sub D played every possession but 3. And I had declined about 100 yards in penalties. So I figured we had built up some good will.

Anyhow, i’ve decided to add one gadget play a week, just to keep things loose & fun.

You need better (coaching) competition, Jake.  Your kids weren't even tested a little bit.
