LOL...no I had requests to play on our team from kids I never heard of before so I sent them there to help numbers. The ones I cut...were cut.

OK...I just needed your input on this.  Petal to the metal.  :)

--Explain what?  56-7 did all of your talking for you.

You know, a few months ago, that was my mind set. Absolutely.  Then, on of our sister teams was involved in a handshake line fight. One of the opposing coaches assaulted one of our sister team's coaches. Then all hell broke loose. Both teams were kicked out of the league, forfeiting their last regular season game and banned from playoffs. Apparently, there were several other handshake line fights that day. Regardless, that's how these kids' youth football careers ended.

So that was reason enough for me to rethink not giving a crap about the other coaches' feelings. It's the reality that some guys probably shouldn't be coaching youth sports, but are. Their reactions to a lopsided score and to what the perceive as disrespect could adversely affect my players or my ability to coach.

However, Mahonz and I had a chat this morning and . . . screw it. I've never been the type of person to live my life based on being afraid of how someone might react to me. In our conversation, I brought up our next opponent. Their coaches seem to be treating this as some sort of extended jamboree. Based on a lot of the decisions they make during the game, I'm convinced they are not trying to win. Too bad for their kids because we ARE trying to win. Cry me a river.

I was in a handshake line that (along with actions during the game) resulted in the Head of Football (or some similar title of equal authority) of the other organization, who was the head coach of the opposing team, getting banned for a year.

I knew something was going to happen. Late in the game I told a coach on our team, "This is going to be the best handshake line ever."

Let's see what I have to say on the evening of May 16. As Han Solo would say, "I have a bad feeling about this."

This past year the same exact thing happened to us,  only difference was the entire opposing organization was immediately kicked out of the league. Had the same spidey sense about it beforehand

Tomorrow's opponent, 1-3. 39 PF, 71 PA. 32 of those points for came on Saturday. I am told the coaching staff are AC's from a local HS. If that's the case, this is illegal under our state HS rules, but we have nothing to do with HS, so  . . . . whatever. Several of our players will attend this HS. They beat a buddy of ours 32-6 and according to him requested to play 8 man football. He refused. The apparently are making the same request of us. I am strongly opposed to this.

* We have 33 kids on our roster and juggling playing time is a challenge with 11 on the field.
* None of us have any experience coaching 8 man football.
* From what I understand, there is more scoring in 8 man and we are trying to eliminate points against us.
* Get more guys next time.

Don't fall in to that trap. Stick to 11 man football.

Gave my 2 cents to the rest of the staff. If it were up to me, the only way I'd do it is if they were to take a forfeit, then we will scrimmage them 8 v 8 and have fun with it.

That is the only way I would do it as well. Keep in mind there is a reason they want to do 8 on 8 and I doubt it has to do with their numbers.

I think they rolled out 11 or 12 in Saturday and expect it to be worse tomorrow somehow. But I agree that there is absolutely nothing in it for us.

The school I work in is 8-man as is the program that I coach in. Wide open and lots of scoring. Maybe 20 points given up is akin to a shutout in 11-man.

That's not what I want to hear. So it turns out that the Spring league has a rule that forfeits are to be avoided at all costs. If a team can't field enough for 11, then the game will be played 8 on 8. Shame on us for not knowing the rules. Dammit.

This new Rule was created to keep forfeits from happening. But Frick and Frack are fools beyond comprehension.

Little League Rule Making 101. Never create a Rule to fix 5% of a problem because it will eventually have an adverse effect on the other 95%. Create a Rule that deletes the problem altogether.

Therefore....the entire League should be playing 8 man rather than making exceptions on the fly.

In 2014 we played 11 man with 11 players. Showed up with 10 twice.  Was never even a consideration to force an opponent to play a different game due to our inability to field a full team.

Here is a fun little clip from our Toilet Bowl Game that season. Not the play itself...but the reaction from all the players on our sideline ! We ended up hammering that Spartans team by 30 points.

So...11 man with 11 Ironmen can be done.

GAME SIX

Two teams from the same town....and the white hat...drive 20 miles in rush hour traffic to play a game on a sea of dandelions growing out of clay.

Why is this important? The league rents our practice field from us for Wednesday night make up games due to weather delays. Our practice field is turf with plenty of parking and clean restrooms....that is 10 minutes from where all the kids from both teams and the white hat live.

Our practice field was not in use this evening.   :-\

So...we play an opponent that has 17 wonderful athletes. Half are 9th graders. Any coach on this Forum would be very pleased with this Roster.  But these kids are coached by Larry, Moe and Curly.

We struggled all game. 14 penalties. Yup. 14. It was maddening and quite exhausting. White Hat wasn't picking on us either. His son played for us for 5 seasons. We are VERY good friends. He is the Head Official for CHSAA Football. Coach Gumby was beside himself with all the Holing but it wasn't just the OL. It was everyone.  Plus late hits and false starts and and and and. Really upsets me.

We did get an explanation at halftime and after the game on the Holding.  We will address the issue that suddenly is an issue. This was a top flight crew and they saw something they didn't like.

Anyhoo.....fortunately Larry, Moe and Curly couldn't coach so we obliterated them 40-0.

We win the turnover battle 3-0 and we win the Mojo Score 3-0.

Pictures tomorrow...light practice Friday. Another game on Saturday.

5-1  :)
