Didn't get to see that game but Westchase Colts out of Tampa mercy ruled a team from Colorado. The Occoee/Cali game is an offensive lovers dream, 50-40.

Congrats on your big win. Good luck against Point Loma. I expect nothing but fireworks in that game. Points on top of points.

Congrats coach. UR is a top notch org and never an easy out. Hopefully you have at least both of PL's nationals games. Scouting is often the difference at that level. Make sure to keep your kids out of the pool the day before and day of the game. I have seen teams walk into a game exhausted because they spent the day in the pool. Going to be a little chilly for us Florida guys later this week so that should keep your team dry. Maybe not the other team.

Don't act like this game is any different than week 2. Don't hype up the opponent. Keep the kids loose. Get them good and warmed up pregame and you'll be in good shape. The butterflies should go away as soon as the ball is kicked off. And believe me, there will be butterflies. Trust what got you there. That sounds cliche but it is valid. Have a blast.

I have a feeling I might be getting a bit sick that day. *coughcough*

I really am thinking of going up. It's a bit of a haul and entry is a little steep but it would be fun.

Yeah the ticket price is nuts. That is why I just stream the games.

Because we knew most of the other coaches. Dan Schlager and Jeff were really good friends. We both won a NC in the same year (2011). We had another team from our conference win that year as well (Jensen Beach). There coach had heard that we had given up film on his team. The guy was really hurt. We did not. We assured him it was not true and I guess he figured it out when we were all celebrating after his win. The guys in your conference might be there for a while. You don't want them giving film up on you because you did it to themselves and.
I don't understand this rationale and its not just PSL. Ultimately any coach worth his salt is going to get the film anyways. On top of that, you can only change so much x and o wise, conceptually you are who you at that point. And it is not the reason you or them will lose the game.

Getting film on teams on the other side of the country is not as easy as you might think. I totally disagree about having film making a difference. We beat teams in the past largely based on film study. I know you won't believe that but it's true. We hung our hat on scouting. Well, it was one of the things we hung our hat on. Scouting for youth is often what puts you on top. It can more than even the playing field. Some of the teams we played were far superior in talent then we were. Finding tells, even tiny ones, helped us overcome the talent difference. Teams that go into nationals blind get punished for it often. Going against a team with few or no tells that was superior in talent and well coached, well, we lost those games generally. Not much you can do then but stress for turnovers.

As far as not giving film up on a conference team, sometimes it's nice not to be a dick. It serves you no other purpose than to sabotage other teams. If it is so easy to get film on teams from across the nation then they can get it from somebody else.

It's just a respect thing.  I have coaches in our conference that I've cooperated with over the years, and I will not share film of their teams with anyone else.  Sure, a coach will likely get it anyway, but I don't care about that.  They didn't get it from me.

If I were DP, I'd share conference film.  But in my situation, we're usually all pulling for each other.  We have our rivalries, but even then, if they played out of conference I wouldn't share film of them without some kind of provocation.

Film matters.  It helps in several areas.  Among them:
- It allows the coaches to prepare for based formations and adjustments that are likely to be needed.  You don't want to be doing that on the fly in a Regional/National game.
- If coaches have seen film and they set up game planning in advance, even if it is only the practice before that game, then it helps with the confidence of the players.  If the coach can say, "you will probably see some of <this>", then they will play with much more confidence when <this> happens.

I should add - from personal experience, film makes a big deal when you are in Regionals and Nationals.  Last year, for Regional semis, our opponent filmed us in our State Championship game.  We had no film on them.  Before we could blink, we were down 22-0 and I feel very strongly that them having film and us not having film was a HUGE part of that.  We were able to regroup and recover to win in 2 OT, but it hurt us not having film.

As far as sharing film from conference opponents, it depends with me.  Coaching has many complex relationships and I think that much of it based on the relationships with individuals.  I have relationships with many coaches in my conference and I would probably not share their film with anyone.  However, it also depends on who is asking.  If it was someone from here that I have met in person or have communicated with quite a bit, then I would share film with them even if it was a conference team's film.  I don't think conference bonds run deeper than my personal relationships for me.
