Super Bowl Champs!
« on: November 13, 2018, 11:01:06 AM »
After a hard fought double overtime Super Bowl win, our 8U team was able to take home the trophy for the second season in a row! I was blessed to be able to work with a great group of kids and coaches. We were big - but not the biggest, strong - but not the strongest, fast - but not the fastest. However, we had a group of kids who battled every snap and were selfless. Kids wiping their bloody noses during timeouts and staying on the field. They are not your normal 7 and 8 year olds. Tough and very physical. We ran the single wing offense and 5-2 on defense. Offensively, we were able to install a lot of the power, spin, and jet series. We even ran a buck lateral or two.  Had 11 guys flying to the football on defense. 11 piranhas as we called it. Can't say enough how proud I am of these guys. I am also very grateful for the guys on this forum who are willing to share. The information I have gained here has been invaluable. Thank you all.

Here is a 10 minute or so offensive highlight video:

Here is a 20 minute video with both offensive and defensive highlights:

Thanks again. I am ready to begin planning for next season. Most of our team will move up to the next age group so a new challenge awaits. If you have time to watch the videos, I'd greatly appreciate any insight you might be willing to share.

Congrats coach!
None of them suck, they just haven't found what the kid is good at yet.

Nice job coach !

Question....on that pick 6 at about 11 minutes.... where your guy cracked back beautifully...did you ever get called for that? We got dinged a few times and Im torn on how I feel about it. We were coaching 7 year olds. Im wondering if the Refs over emphasized this action.

Thanks for sharing.  8)

Thanks, Coach. We did not get flagged for it. We coach being physical but do not look for stuff like that. The kid in the video (my son) had watched his fair share of youtube clips of big hits earlier in the day! I am a little torn on it as well. I don't want to see too much stuff behind the play but do not want to get the kids thinking about when they should be physical and when not.

I can see from the vid that your team isn't the biggest/strongest/fastest.  Your team's advantage and success had to come via a different means.  I'm thinking it was the coaching.  Congratulations on winning the big game!

Thanks, Coach. We as coaches did our best, but the boys executed. It does make you feel good as a coach when the opposing coaches always talk about how disciplined our guys were. We have a very smart group of kids.
